Manor ISD Superintendent Dr. Andre D. Spencer Graduates from Thompson Institute
The Thompson Executive Leadership Institute in Austin has announced that Dr. Andre D. Spencer, Superintendent of Manor ISD, is the recipient of an academic scholarship to attend their 28th annual Superintendent Academy.
“I am honored to be part of this prestigious academy,” said Spencer. “I look forward to using the knowledge gained from the academy to improve the educational outcomes for our scholars in Manor ISD.”
The Academy is jointly sponsored by the Thompson Executive Leadership Institute (TELI) and Region 13 Education Service Center in Austin. The TELI Superintendent Academy is a nationally known advanced leadership development program for school superintendents from Texas and surrounding states.
Dr. Bob Thompson, TELI’s director, said membership in the invitation-only Academy is competitive. Spencer was nominated by his colleagues, met a set of rigorous screening criteria, and was judged by the screening committee to have a leadership skill set that will add value to the discussions in a “think tank” of peers.
Admission to the TELI Academy, according to Thompson, is recognition, not only of the superintendent but also the ongoing efforts of the board to improve education for children.
Spencer became Superintendent of the Manor Independent School District in the summer of 2020, after serving as an Executive Superintendent in the New York City Department of Education, and as superintendent of schools for Harrison School District 2 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He has also worked in the Baltimore City Public School System as a science teacher, assistant principal, and principal. In addition, Dr. Spencer spent three years as a school leadership officer (regional superintendent) in the Houston Independent School District.
